Hostel on fire

Fire engulfs Mzuzu University hostel, leaving students stranded. The blaze destroyed clothes, books, food, and personal belongings. 

According to University Registrar Yonamu Ngwira, the fire was caused by a student leaving a hotplate on.on.

Students have been ordered to vacate the premises and proceed on holiday as announced

Navicha urges action as children demand stronger protection at NCC launch

Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Honourable Mary Navicha, MP, has called for stronger action to protect children from abuse, saying Malawi can no longer afford to ignore the growing cases of violence, exploitation and neglect. Speaking on Saturday during the launch of the National Children’s Commission (NCC) at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, Navicha said the Commission will play a critical role in safeguarding children’s welfare across the country. “Children deserve better education, good health and a safe environment. Caring for our children is not just the responsibility of my ministry or government; it is for every Malawian,” she said.  Five people have died in Lilongwe accident

Five people have died while one person is seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed last night at Youth Drive Junction near Sanctuary along Saulos Chilima highway. According to a police report, a 22 year old Wycliffe Liyati who was driving a Ford Ranger Double Cab, MG 134 AR from Parliament Roundabout heading down to Kamuzu Central Collided with a Nissan X- Trail which was turning right to join the Kamuzu Institute Road an impact caused five people to die on the spot. Two of the deceased are identified as Gerald Gwangwala a 40 year old Zimbabwean national and four year old girl Rolin Kamatenda. The other three are two women and a young boy who are yet to be identified.
